Blue Semiconductor Laser
M8100 takes advantage of a new 80 mW UV semiconductor (diode) recording laser with a wavelength of 375 nm. This laser has numerous advantages including longer life, lower power consumption, lower noise (resulting in lower jitter recordings) lower operating cost, and a wavelength short enough to enable BD density mastering in combination with ODC Nimbus’ exclusive high-resolution dye-polymer. The laser is modulated directly eliminating the need for a separate modulator in the optical path, simplifying the optical system, and improving beam stability. |

DRAW Mastering
The M8100 features ODC Nimbus’ exclusive DRAW (Direct Read After Write) Mastering. During DRAW Mastering, a diode playback laser reads the pit recorded by the recording laser. DRAW Mastering then produces a real-time quality control feedback loop that instantly adjusts laser power and focus servos for optimum and consistent performance. This is why DRAW Mastering’s tight process control results in the industry’s highest production yields.
Industry Best Mechanical System
Blu-ray Disc requires cutting tracks at an extremely small track pitch, with minimal track to track and cumulative variation. The M8100 features an oil-damped translation mechanism based on proven and patented Nimbus technology. This third generation mechanism was developed specifically to exceed Blu-ray Disc specifications. No other mastering system comes close to achieving the stability of this new ODC Nimbus design.
Built-In Flexibility to Support Future Formats
The M8100 was designed to accommodate Customers preferred Third-Party signal processors such as Eclipse and DCA. This flexibility is especially important with new formats, as frequently there is a need to update features as the new format evolves.
Advanced Write-Strategy for Best Quality Replicas
The tight specification demands of the Blu-ray disc format require extremely tight control of pit and land shape, size, and edge position. ODC Nimbus use advanced closed-loop Write-Strategy methods to exceed the specifications. Playback data from BD replicas is analyzed using ODC Nimbus proprietary software tools, and write-strategy files are automatically generated to compensate for molding effects. This method uses complex algorithms to minimize Inter Symbol Interference that is the major cause of jitter.
Low Cost-Per-Master and Cost-Of-Ownership
By using glass substrates, the M8100 produces masters at a fraction of the cost of competitors silicon wafer based solutions. In addition, write lasers can be replaced without the need to replace entire costly optical assemblies. |
